Soundtrack Reaches #1 for 3 Weeks and Sets Other Records

Goals:

Drive streams, downloads, sales, and awareness of the soundtrack release.

CLIENT:

Interscope Records partnered with TEC Direct Media to support the release of the highly anticipated A Star Is Born soundtrack featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

The soundtrack launched alongside the theatrical release of the film, creating a concentrated release window where awareness generated by film promotion needed to be converted into streams, downloads, album sales, and sustained chart performance.

SOLUTION:

TEC Direct Media developed a national media campaign designed to capitalize on the excitement surrounding the film’s debut. The strategy combined radio, digital media, television, and high-impact outdoor advertising in key markets across the country.

Media placements were timed to coincide with the soundtrack and film launch, ensuring consumers encountered the album across multiple channels during peak interest. By extending the reach of the film’s publicity efforts, the campaign reinforced awareness and encouraged audiences to stream, download, and purchase the soundtrack.

The campaign helped support one of the most successful soundtrack releases of the decade.

According to Nielsen, A Star Is Born delivered the biggest debut week for a soundtrack in more than three years, earning 231,000 equivalent album units in its first week. The album became one of the top-selling releases of 2018, surpassing 700,000 sales and more than 1.1 million album-equivalent units.

The soundtrack remained at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart for three consecutive weeks, demonstrating sustained consumer demand well beyond release week. The album later achieved RIAA 2x Multi-Platinum certification, further validating its commercial success and long-term audience engagement.
