As one of the most celebrated movies and soundtracks of all time, La La Land‘s Oscar Award winning soundtrack was a major priority for our client, Interscope Records. The film enjoyed a tremendous amount of buzz starting with its premiere in December 2016 through the various accolades it received, including “Best Original Score” and “Best Original Song,” in February 2017. It was important to our client to ride the momentum of the film to promote the soundtrack. TEC Direct Media was tasked with generating consistent awareness for the soundtrack starting with the film’s release and throughout awards season.
TEC Direct Media utilized research on key markets, time frames, and programs to plan and execute a consistent media presence promoting the soundtrack. Targeting P25-54, we identified key programs and time frames to buy strategic TV, terrestrial radio and outdoor media placements that provide the most reach against our target audience.
Placements were scattered throughout a three month flight, which kept the soundtrack top of mind with consumers. As key programs and events (award shows) revealed themselves, TEC Direct Media acted quickly to leverage those opportunities and maximize exposure for the soundtrack. As a result, La La Land‘s soundtrack received consistent sales/streams throughout the important awards season.
